Openwrt on the Huawei E970 & B970

For a project I am working with the Huawei E970 and B970 devices installing openwrt onto them. (see: http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/huawei/e970 At one point I had somewhat bricked the device and needed access to the CFE bootloader. Requiring me to solder a USB to TTL Serial Cable onto the motherboard. The pictures on openwrt were somewhat useful giving me at least an indication of where the solder points were. One thing to note is that the ground pin isn't special that just happened to be a convenient place that was easy to solder to. Hopefully these ones will provide a more detailed view for someone who may end up in the same position!

  1. Hi,
I think I brick my B970 after trying to install openwrt. (Chaos calmer image file is too big?)
What did you do after soldering the serial port? Is there a way to run tftp or telnet afterward?
    .
    Thanks for the help.

  2. you can get a tftp server running to flash something sane again. Serial port is to get you to the CFE bootloader see: https://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/techref/bootloader/cfe

Little surprised a overly large firmware would brick it. The space limitation on this device makes getting openwrt with useful tools on it a real challenge.

  3. Hi Justin,
how's the project's state? Do you've got already a working openWRT firmware?
